2주간 뉴욕 퀸즈 서쪽 지역을 조사한 결과, gentrification이라는 좀 학술풍 단어 안쓰고 싶었는데, 조사하고보니 정확하게 이런 상황을 두고 이 단어를 쓰는구나라고 발표 하루전에 단어를 배워서 대놓고 패널에 쓸 수 밖에 없었다. 지난 100년간의 토지 이용의 변천사를 조사하고, 시각화하는 과정에서 중요한 변화의 시기가 있었음을 그리고 현재의 급격한 변화를 감지할 수 있었다.

비행기 타기 몇일전까지 작업을 하다보니 주변 사람들에게 쿠사리도 좀 먹었었다. 심사가 다 끝나려면 11월인가? 생각했던 것만큼 그림이 따라주지 못해서 많이 속상했었다. 어쨌든 다시 뉴욕. 난 학교 좋더만, 성문이 그러더라. “나를 위한 학교가 세상에 어딨겠냐.” 불만이 많구나 너.

생각하는 것이 이루어지는 시간이 점점 줄어들어 이젠 (-)의 값을 가진고로, 생각하면 언젠가 누군가 이뤄버리는 정도가 아니라 이젠 생각하고 찾아보면 인터넷 어딘가에 다 있다. 양자 역학의 좋은 예이다. (그런가?) 나만의 독창적인 세상에 처음인 아이디어란 거, 없다. 없어요. 다만, 이 시점에 적절한가? 이 상황에 적절한가? 가 더 중요하달까요.

촉촉하고 달고 뭔가 흘러넘치는 느낌 – juicy!라고 외치는- 의 포도가 떠올라서 마트에서 청포도를 샀는데, 뭔가 입안에 수분을 뺐어가는 듯 푸석하고 씨는 왜 그리 많은지 양이나 좀 적게 살걸 하는 후회가 들었다. 안그래도 잇몸치료 때문에 뭘 씹는 게 그리 기분 좋지는 않은 상황에서 말이다. 이런 경우 옛날에 엄마는 꼭 그 채소가게에 가서 저번 포도는 별로였다라는 이야기를 하곤 하셨다. 억울하지만, 모든 것을 24시간 파는 수퍼에 가서 “아우 저번 포도는 영 아니었어요.”라고 말할…
