Shinkenchiku

Me and Seohong’s work won the honorable mention from Shinkenchiku’s competition in Japan. Still I regret to compromise at some point. Well, that’s my limitation to overcome.

Yet, it’s not officially announced, and concerning of copyright, I should not upload this material, whatever. It’s just small thumbnail. I’ll explain more later… (when?)

신건축

서홍군과 같이 작업한 신건축 공모전에 3등상 탔다고 이메일이 왔다. 하면서 계속 타협하면 안되는데 안되는데 하면서 넘어간 지점들이 생각난다. 능력 부족이지 뭐.

저작권 문제도 있고 (일본 흉아들 특히 민감) 아직 정식 시상식도 안한 상황이니 올리기 좀 뭣하지만, 지금 아니면 또 안한다는 거. 자세한 설명은 나중에 – 과연

친애하는 버팔로에게.

답사가는 날 드디어 에너지 드링크라는 레드불을 마셨다. 아니. 그러고보니 여기에 버팔로가 있네. (수력) 에너지 – 버팔로 (州) 와 (체력) 에너지 – 버팔로 (牛) 를 보니, 원래 에리 운하를 통한 물자의 운송과 나이아가라 폭포를 이용한 전력 공급으로 산업시대를 풍미했던 버팔로가 레드불 공장을 하면 재미있겠다. 하는 뻘소리를 했던 것. 그래요. 파워-에너지란, 전기만을 말하는 것이 아니지요. 파워는 권력도 있고 경제력도 있고 군사력도 있고 정력도 있는 것입니다.

파워스튜디오는 전력 생산을 근간으로한 제조업 도시에 대한 스터디가 아니라, 모든 종류의 “힘”의 이동에 대한 도시의 연구가 되어야합니다. 제조업의 변화는 버팔로의 문제가 아니라 전지구적인 힘의 이동에 따른 결과란 것이지요. – 라는 거 열라 뻔한데, 레드불로 시작해서, 버팔로윙 먹으면서 회의했다는 오야지 개그로 마무리.

친애하는 선셋파크에게.

브루클린의 선셋파크 지역 역시 뉴저지의 컨테이너항이 등장하기 전까지, 특히 2차대전의 물자 운송을 위한 산업 도시로 성장해왔었다. 브루클린 아미 터미널은 엘비스의 입대로도 유명하다고. 어쨌거나 후기산업시대 도시 – 포스트 인더스트리얼 시티를 후기 산업시대 도시라고 해도 될까 – 의 전형 적인 특징들을 골고루 갖추고 있어요. 산업은 쇠퇴하고, 직장은 줄어들고.

그럼, 잃어버린 모조를 찾아주는 방법은 무엇일까? 아침에 파워가 들어가는 것 낱말은 뭐가 있을까요 떠들던 중에 “오스틴 파워도 있다!”라고 소리친 후 퀸시존스의 소울보사노바를 흥얼거리며 30분만에 완성. 아 레드훅을 포함해서 선셋파크 항들을 따보니 아니 총같아. 그리고 트리거 (실은 손잡이 쪽, 레드훅)에 새로 들어온 이케아 매장. 이런 것이 트리거가 될 수 있지 않을까요? (순진난만한 표정으로)
