open source

Something that is amazing is not always non-understandable like X-file. For example, my friend once told me she was still amazed with flying air plane. We know how air plane flies from school or some pretty illustrated book, but it’s still amazing. Frankly it was not so amazing to me. Simply because, I didn’t care. After I heard her story, every time I fly, I feel amazed. (and scared. – It’s side effect.)

For me what amaze me all the time, is open source. How has it been possible? We know how it works. but still amazing. I’m reading a boring book, ‘The World Is Flat” which begins with some interesting facts of outsourcing services from US to India, and how it works. Until the first chapter it was fine, but suddenly it goes to history of IT. From the birth of the internet which I have lived through with. Yes, I’m not a programmer nor IT guy, but I was even among the First Korean bloggers. (It’s a dark history. And by some mistake my old blogging archives are gone.) Anyway, most of story was not history in a book to me. I have watched them grow. That’s why it was boring. However when its history comes to the stories of open source, it gets interested. Because, still for me, open source is all mystery.

The world’s biggest computer company decided that its engineers could not best the work of an ad hoc open-source collection of geeks, so they threw out their own technology and decided to go with the geeks!

Huh, even Apache was open source. I even didn’t know that. And open source was not just a fantasy of humanity. It’s result of business. Amazing business. and I’m expecting to know how it has worked.

Ben

Even the screen saver is beautiful. KINDLE KINDLE KINDLE ~

I like Ben Kweller’s ‘Falling’ so much, and oh, I heard news Ben made a new album with some famous writer. Let’s get it. – Then I bought Ben Folds’s new album. Yes, it’s different Ben! I confused Ben Folds with Ben Kweller. Furthermore I never knew Nick Hornby was big one. Sorry, I just discovered one of my favorite movie, High fidelity was from his book. Should I read this book? Feel like I should do. Yes, I have Kindle.

In fact, the beautiful lyrics doesn’t bother me. – I rarely hear lyrics for music. However, this album is still beautiful. If I understand the lyrics, I’d be touched double, but I don’t care.

Kindle

Finally.

My Kindle came to my hands. My (usual) stupidity made me to order it to the old address and I had to meet my old room mate. Anyway, now it’s in my hand, using it for 10 hours. It’s a thing. I can”t let it off my hands.

Socks

Paring socks after laundry is always annoying. To prevent this weekly event, I’ve bought same color of socks. Black. After a while I realize that it’s now super annoying that paring same black socks of different (but almost similar) shape.

Almost is nothing.

Jaws Bar

You are vegetarian!

I don’t like Jaws bar (even in Korea), but I wanted to introduce ‘Korean flavor’ to my friends – The pure artificial junk flavor.

I know, you want more artificial.

However US version of Jaws bar was too weak. Original ‘Jaws Bar’ has more stronger artificial flavor. 100% of pure process popsicle with pure artificial color of red and deep blue sea.

See? It’s colors are much more vivid and dark, and so strong that your tongue will change to black after you melt it. However, I was amazed with Jenny’s creative recipe: Jaws bar with Mexican chili pepper seasoning.

I even didn’t try it.

Sukkah City

Been to Sukkah City NYC 2010 (pre) exhibition. I thought it’s already installed at Union Square, but it’s not. It’s kind of pre-contest. Some are built, some are yet. Online poll is going on at the New York magazine, and the chosen one will be erected at Union Square. (until Oct.2) If Nidhi wasn’t with me, I might go to Union Square instead of the Gowanus Studio Space.
